Our second episode this week (making up for the missed one last week), Jason is joined by Matt Coffin, angel investor and founder of LowerMyBills.com. Matt founded LowerMyBills back in 1999 (full details about his inspiration come during the first part of his interview) and later sold it to Experian for over $300M. Since then he’s become an angel investor and advisor to startups around the world (including Mahalo).

Check out the full episode to find out about his management style, the type of companies he really wants to invest in, and how to get funding with your next project.

    Please ask Leo about audio compression. TWiSt audio-only episodes are 3X the size of a comparable TWIT-network episode, and take forever to download.

    Otherwise…thanks for the podcast — it’s been great so far.

  2. Wow. I have enjoyed all the episodes but this was my favorite TWIST by far. Thanks Jason and thanks Matt.

  3. Matt, if you need more power for your Kindle – there are a bunch of external batteries out there. Here’s a link to one: http://www.amazon.com/BrandoPower-Universal-5000mAh-Lithium-External/dp/B002KE8ZRY

    I’ve never used one but no reason to go without.

  4. FYI, Gizmo5 was hands-down the best way desktop GrandCentral client, and the same is true for Google Voice. It’s also built on standards that Google wants to support.
    Google was fielding a bunch of customer support queries for desktop VOIP for voice, and ultimately that meant supporting the voice-gizmo5 interface. I’m sure they saw that either gizmo could own the future of the google voice interface, or they could embrace it.
    Skype has no vertical integration with the existing Voice/Talk stack, and it doesn’t use standards, so building the integration will be hard.

    Just discovered this show in a clean & simple basic wp theme environment;
    Great interview – great show. First I thought of Tom C. when seeing the picture on top but it was Matt.
    Just an alternative video streaming option would be great – fast-forward seems to download the whole thing. Anyway, waiting is worth it. cheers

    Thank you guys for another great episode and Mahalo pack!!!

  7. I love Google Voice. There SMS feature in truth got me into it. I can send off free text messages to Bangladesh, India, and USA. It saves me some good money on my texting plan from Verizon Wireless because I can utilize that to text. I think Google always does a very job of giving users what they want and need. I have heard in the future they are incorporating Voice with the Android. Plus they purchased a new VoIP company which they will mix with the other two to give some excellent features. I need to get me a Androind now haha.

    To the guy with the Kindle plug-in idea:

    I think the feedback you got on your idea was too narrow.. and likely because they were focused purely on the idea as it currently stands. IMO, you should adjust your model out of music altogether (music is expensive and troubled), and instead build a Kindle plug-in that delivers contextual advertising that’s tied into the read. Pretty much the same concept.. just different form of media you’re serving up.

    John
