What should Jason do for the 50th episode?

The title says it all; we want to make the 50th episode special, for one we are taking the show on the road to San Francisco the epicenter for tech startups and plan on having a venue that can hold a large number of people.  In the past while on the road normal segments like “Ask Jason” and “Shark Tank” have proved difficult.  So we have been throwing around a couple ideas:

  • Have a mega guest, interview and live Q&A (who do you think qualifies as a mega guest?)
  • Have a round table of past epic show guests (who would you include as the 5-6 epic guests?)
  • Have a Bonus (show) after hours poker game with guests chatting about tech news and how it fits in with business.  (Would head-to-head play between different guest be interesting and have Jason bouncing around chatting between tables or would a table full of different guest be fun?)

All of these we have been throwing around but we would like to hear your ideas and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.  Please add your ideas to the comments.

I would like the killer guest(s) and – strange as that my sound – more time with him/them aka a longer show, maybe 50 hrs or so ;-)

  2. Nate says:

I like the idea of a roundtable of epic guests – put my vote down for Gary V and Annie D! Fantastic idea.

I’d go for the poker table idea, but I’m an audio listener and I think the poker game would fall flat without video.

  3. An update / call in of the shark tankers would be nice, too.

Maybe two rounds of TWiST allstars, one group about social media / marketing and one on angel funding / VC.

As killer guest I would like to see either Steve Balmer or Jeff Bezos.

  4. Gary Vaynerchuk & Annie Duke must be there.

  5. Mark Goulston, Phil Kaplan and Dan Dodge are the other guests I would like to see again. Also get someone from twitter (Ev, Biz) or Jack Doresey of square .

  6. Denny Ferrassoli says:

Bring in the guy who Skype’d in that was sticking up for Kiretsu. That episode made me laugh so hard!

  7. GeekStack says:

I thought Mark Suster and Matt Coffin were underrated guests and I’d love to see them again.

  8. Maciek says:

    Gary Vaynerchuk and Don Dodge

I’d suggest to go deeper than the usual stuff… would be interesting to talk about

    - entrepreneurship as the function of introspection
    - meaning as the new cornerstone of advantage: Does what you produce actually make anyone meaningfully better off? (U. Haque)

Do an episode on what 10 things Internet Entrepreneurs need to succeed with another “Samurai”.

Some of us have learnt hard lessons but what is it that makes STartups get beyond their first year and on their road to success. Bringing on a “Reality Check” will also advise entrepreneurs that success is not a “get-rich-quick” scheme.

I think teh stories behind the “hustle” of Gary Vee and the “persuasive” power of Jason + (fill in the blanks) would make the perfect entrepreneur.

  11. Casper Zomerdijk says:

TWiST Cashgame w/ entrepreneurs mentioned above would be cool.

  12. Casper Zomerdijk says:

Oh and i predict heads-up matches will be boring. Go for fullring w/ antes and double straddle. There will be awesome action.

  13. Andrew says:

How about an promising (and entertaining) entrepreneur of Jason’s choice who’s wave hasn’t broke yet – but is out there – right now swimming with the sharks…? Example might be the bit.ly guys?

  14. Casey Allen says:

Most of your watchers know the broad strokes of your career, but little about why you did what you did and the failures (minus selling SA Reporter in a down period).

Have Andrew Warner interview you. Deep. Detailed. Fill in gaps for the world but most importantly, for your fans.

The problem with mega-guests is that they’ve already been Q&A-ed to death, so we already know most things about them and can damn-near predict their answers.

  15. you already know! Kevin Rose and Jack Dorsey.

and bring back, Matt (from wordpress) and Gary v.

    Mr Calacanis,

Guests are great. Whoever you get I’m sure will be great. What I would like to see (maybe not the 50th, but some future show) is a show dedicated to:

    1) I was in the shower and “BAM!” – I got my idea.

    ====ALL IN BETWEEN STEPS======

Last Step) Presenting business plan and beta/demo product to Angel investors.

I realize this could be 5 shows, or a book, either way I am in.

For me personally (and I realize you have a large sophisticated audience) I’d like to see this whole thing from the perspective of essentially having nothing with respect to cash on hand.

I feel like I have my idea, I have figured out my basic model with viable revenue streams, but now I need a website with a very complex backend that is completely scalable should I be succesful.

To get to the next step do you attempt to get a beta site built or do you just build mockups for a presentation? Is the answer as easy as looking at my bank account and doing what I can afford now? Is step one raising funds for my idea, getting it to beta stage and then going for round 2?

As you said very recently – good ideas get funded very quickly.

Anyway I’m sure you get the picture of where I feel myself and others could use support.

    Sincerely,

    Jude

I wish Jason would put out an audio-only version of this podcast. I *listen* to podcasts, not watch them. There’s really no reason to see two people sitting at a table talking. The content is great but I’m getting really tired of having my CPU have to churn for 20 or 30 minutes to download these 500+ MB files every week. Plus they take up a lot of room on my iPod. Jason, I really think this is just a “vanity” thing with you. Please consider creating an audio-only version of TWIST. Thanks.

  18. Scott Simko says:

Rob – Their is an audio only version on iTunes, you can also find audio only here http://feeds2.feedburner.com/twist-audio

  19. Sam says:

    I concur with 5 – 6 epic guests .. but everyone’s in a spa/hot tub.

  20. Sam says:

Oh, and instead of calling in to shark tank, the entrepreneur sits in the hot tub with the “sharks” and pitches his or her idea in person. Shark Tub

  21. Sam says:

Oh God, I’m dying here .. http://www.hulu.com/watch/97800/saturday-night-live-james-browns-celebrity-hot-tub-party “Jason Calacanis Celebrity Hot Tub” .. come on, it’s a great idea.
