Saturday’s guest will be Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, General Manager of Venture Frogs, coming to you live from SXSW. Many of you already know Zappos and the amazing customer service and culture that surrounds the company but what do you know about it’s CEO? I thought I’d focus on somethings you might not know:

He attended Harvard, class of 1995

He Co-Founded LinkExchange and sold the company to Microsoft in 1998 for $265M

He is a Co-Founder of Venture Frogs an incubator / investment company

Did you know Tony isn’t a founder of Zappos? He was and investor and advisor in the beginning but quickly joined the Zappos team in 2000 and yes he recently sold Zappos to Amazon in a deal valued at over $1.2 billion on the day of closing.

He has a book coming out soon, Delivering Happiness, release date June 7, 2010.

Some of the highlights of Delivering Happiness include:

Pay new employees $2000 to quit.

Make customer service the responsibility of the entire company, not just a department.

Focus on company culture as the #1 priority.

Apply research from the science of happiness to running a business.

Help employees grow both personally and professionally.

Seek to change the world.

Oh, and make money too.

Here is a few of Kevin Rose’s favorites quotes:

“It may seem sometimes like we don’t know what we’re doing. And it’s true: we don’t. That’s a bit scary, but you can take comfort in knowing that nobody else knows how to do what we’re doing either… so there are no experts in what we’re doing. Except for us: we are becoming experts as we do this.”

“The role of a manager is to remove obstacles and enable his/her direct reports to succeed. This means the best leaders are servant-leaders. They serve those they lead.”

Special thanks to Bing and Sonos and our regular sponsors DNAMail, Ustream, WebSpy and PowerVPS for bringing TWiST to SXSW. We will have more exciting sponsors announced soon.

Next Michael decided to enter the VoIP market with SIPphone.com (renamed Gizmo5) in which they built a platform and directory that hardware or software developers could offer free VoIP services. Google acquired Gizmo5 in November 2009 for a reported $30 million to integrate with Google Talk and Google Voice.

Currently Michael is back in the music business with MP3Tunes, a music storage “locker” where users upload their music and can listen to it through any web browser including mobile devices and home entertainment systems. Working in the music industry again has also brought lawsuits back into his life, most recently from EMI.

Supporting higher education, Michael launched REEF (Robertson Educational Empowerment Foundation) in the fall of 2002 at the University of California, San Diego. REEF is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting new and innovative programs of investment in education.

When: Feb. 19th: 1pm (Pacific), 4pm (Eastern), 9pm (London), 8am (Sydney, Feb. 20th)

This week’s guest will be Stefan Weitz, Director of Bing Search at Microsoft. Stefan’s primary focus is to reach out to the community to promote and improve search. Prior to search he worked on the MSN portal platform and helped Microsoft’s municipal WiFi strategies.

Bing has recently made great strides by gaining market share in the search market. One of the highlights of Bing is the map experience:

Destination Maps: You can now create your own customized map such a special invitations or event announcements. You can even select multiple map styles such as Sketchy, European, American or Treasure to give it a different look and feel.

Local Events: You can search for what’s happening around where you plan to be – for example, it will pop up the time and locations of nearby shows and community events.

Twee Maps: See real-time geo-based Tweets from users across the world.

Bing Map Challenge, where you can have a chance to win a $100 gift card.

They have also placed an emphasis on guided search (showing additional categories to help narrow results) and on semantic search (index and search by different facets) a nice example of a new feature is Bing Recipes.

This should prove to be an interesting conversation due to search being very important to Jason, don’t miss it.

Joining Jason this Friday (at a special time – 11:00 AM) is everyone’s favorite twittering wine expert, Gary Vaynerchuck! You all know Gary from hosting WineLibraryTV, but he’s also got a new book out – Crush It! Tune in to check out what happens when you put Jason and Gary on camera together to talk business.

About Gary:

Gary Vaynerchuk has captured attention with his pioneering, multi-faceted approach to personal branding and business. After primarily utilizing traditional advertising techniques to build his family’s local wine business into a national industry leader, Gary rapidly leveraged social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to promote Wine Library TV, his video blog about wine. As his viewership swelled to over 80,000 a day, doors opened to a book deal, several national TV appearances, and a flurry of speaking engagements around the world. Gary’s dual identity as both business guru and wine guy has made him the “Social Media Sommelier.” His impact on the wine world has been commemorated via his inclusion in the 2009 Decanter Power List, an index of the 50 most influential figures in the industry.

In addition to the Web 2.0 keynote above, Gary’s remarks on personal branding, social media, and business at FOWA, Strategic Profits, and South By Southwest occasioned praise from established web denizens including Kathy Sierra and earned the admiration of countless bloggers and aspiring entrepreneurs

Yep!

The rules are pretty straightforward : You write a review of TWiST episode #13. What did you like? What didn’t you like? Great episode of TWiST or GREATEST episode of TWiST? Just lay it all down in a blog post.

What’s the contest aspect?

Jason is giving away a $500 dollar iPhone gift card to the BEST review. That means you can get an iPhone without giving Apple and Crazy (talented) Steve Jobs your first born!

Post it on your blog, or start a new blog and let TWiST be the first review, either way, email us a copy at contact@thisweekinstartups.com (so Jason knows where to look).

Write an awesome review, and get a brand new iPhone 3G S, and a few months of service. Simple, right?

Now get crackin’!
